Few people have mastered the knack of staying motivated. For most, it appears to be ephemeral. It comes and goes like waves on the beach, frequently retreating at the most inconvenient times when we need it the most.
I, like many of you, aspire to create a better future for myself and others in my care. As they say, the best way to anticipate the future is to build and construct it for yourself. This all sounds straightforward in principle until one is confronted with the actual uphill battle.
When I started my Master’s study in Marketing at the University of London, I had to balance work, family, and personal life. What was most difficult for me was not time management, but energy management – maintaining high levels of focus and output in the present moment.
The question then becomes, what distinguishes those who produce outstanding outcomes from others who just scrape by? Many would argue that it is skill, but we have seen plenty of inspiring examples of people who, despite their flaws, took it upon themselves to prove the doubters wrong – whether in business, education, sports, or even spirituality.
Having said that, I am a firm believer that success in any endeavour is determined by one’s capacity to keep one’s vision and goals in the forefront of one’s mind, even among the craziness of the “grind.”
To summarise, remember why you began, and the trip – no matter how difficult – becomes more meaningful, and meaning motivates near superhuman deeds. With that, I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours.
